ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The focus of the Elementary School is to instill in students a desire to be excellent spiritually and academically. Spiritually, our desire is for students to build on the knowledge of who they are as children of the Most-High God. Academically, our desire is for students to know and believe that they can succeed in every academic endeavor. In addition, our desire is for students to develop a mind to persevere so that they are equipped to handle any academic challenge. During the elementary years, students develop their critical thinking skills and learn how to work with their peers.

"...Our desire is for students to build on the knowledge of who they are (Children of the Most-High God) and accept who they are by being who they are."

Classwork includes..

Bible

The From the Heart Christian School Bible Curriculum is written to guide teachers at all grade levels in their instruction for the Bible classes taught at From the Heart Christian School. At every grade level, our Bible classes must be based on the Foundational Teachings of Our Church, as identified in the Constitution of From the Heart Church Ministries Worldwide™.

Mathematics

This course promotes mathematical processes and thinking, (problem solving, reasoning, communication, connections, and representation) as the mathematics Content Standards of operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, measurement and data, and geometry are taught as appropriate for the grade level.

Science

This course explores such topics as plants, animals, and people; living things and where they live; our earth; weather and sky; matter; and energy sources and motion. Students also receive instruction in the Scientific Method which prepares them for the elementary science fair.

English Language Arts

This course focuses on instruction of the Maryland State Curriculum for reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Reading, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and writing instruction focuses on literary and informational texts, as well as effectively applying God’s Word to all real world situations and experiences.

Spanish

Spanish at the elementary level is an introductory course, exposing students to the diversity of the Latino and Hispanic culture as well as introductory words, phrases, and vocabulary used in select situations. Students learn and practice language skills through songs, role-plays, and other interactive activities. The goal at this level is to motivate students as they begin their journey towards proficiency in another language.

Music

This course promotes the students to discover and explore critical elements of music such as pitch, rhythm, dynamics, and expression through our Aural training unit. Our music program builds a foundation of music concepts such as beat, melody, singing, and playing a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments. Students get to create their own music in our Compose unit. We also provide a comprehensive listening component. Students identify purpose and meaning in music and discover how the elements of music are used to convey this meaning.

Penmanship

In today’s digital age, handwriting is still a crucial foundational skill for literacy development and strong academic performance. This course, developed for students in grades Kindergarten-Second, uses the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Method. Students are instructed using the Keys to Legibility (shape, size, spacing, and slant) for manuscript and cursive writing (cursive begins in second grade). With print and digital support, students can go beyond just learning to write letters to becoming effective written communicators.
